A dedicated pair of cycle shoes will enhance your cycling and help you push harder and ride for longer. Typically, road cycling shoes are stiffer than normal trainers, making the act of pedalling far easier, they will also feature a system called “clipless” which means clipping into the pedal with a cleat on the bottom of the shoe, letting you pull the pedals around as well as pushing them down, boosting efficiency. Mountain bike shoes can also be stiff but also have some flex for comfort. If you find your normal shoes slide or bounce off the pedals while riding, its time to kick them for a pair of MTB shoes. These come in either flat or clipless style, both provide a grippy, efficient “pinned” feeling, allowing you to rip down your favourite single-track, xc route, DH track or casual canal path alike.
